How the flood's been for us.

Recently, there's been heavy flooding in quite a few parts of Thailand. For my family, we have only been slightly affected by the floods. Many markets and stores around us have been closed, and it's been getting pretty hard to get water bottles. It's a good thing we have a filter in our house, though! We've tried our best to stock up on as much food as possible, just in case we get flooded in. However, it doesn't seem very possible right now. Our area is still as hot and humid as ever!

I haven't been able to help any flood victims. I would if I could, but traffic is terrible now that the roads are being blocked up! We had plans for the extended break; we were possibly going to go to the beach. Now, though, that can't happen because of both the floods AND traffic. However, because more and more people need to evacuate their homes, it's a huge problem. The floods are affecting everyone in Thailand: some people in safer areas are worried for family, stores are shutting down, or people are actually evacuated from their homes because of the flooding! I only know about 2 people that were flooded out.

There's also the recent earthquake in Turkey that may be a problem because Turkey is almost surrounded by bodies of water like the Black Sea. We all know that earthquakes cause floods! So, I also hope that Turkey recovers quickly from the quake.

Let's hope for the best; this flood is getting pretty bad! I hope that all of you are safe and okay. c:

  1. Hi Hannah, it is so good to hear that you and your family are safe and relatively unaffected by the flood. The connection you made between the earthquake in Turkey and possible flooding due to the bodies of water near the country is impressive. Have you been following the news or do you have a strong interest in geography? If you continue to follow the events, I would encourage you to write a follow-up post to this interesting connection. Stay safe!

  2. Its good to know that you're safe Hannah! My family, we try to stock up food too but its pretty much a hassle considering every store i go to is short of this and that. My area has been affected too, the water level is about mid thigh and its pretty scary to drive in but the level has decreased. I totally agree with you about the traffic. I have evacuated to Huahin last week and the traffic KILLS. it usually takes us about 3-4 hours to drive to Huahin but now it takes like 4-6. Pretty harsh right? Anyways I LOVED your blog :)

  3. Hello Hannah :D

I am really happy to know that you're safe and dry from the flood water! A few days ago, I returned to Minburi, an I saw floodwater slowly rising in the marketplace region outside where I lived, I was thinking "Is Hannah okay" because I think you lived close to where I mentioned, but now I am relieved to know that your family members are safe from the flood. :3

Like you, I also wish I could make donations to the flood and help the people in need. However, our family can't even help ourselves from the loss of the disaster to us now, at least we are optimistic. Your mention of the beach reminded me of our visit to Phukhet in October break last years, when we had so much fun time, but this years the flood misfortunes cancelled our travel plan, as well as our trip for Songkran break in the future months.
I like how you talked about the earthquakes in Turkey. I do not know it happened before reading your blog post. It is a powerful connection made, and I realized I need to pay more attention to the news and get better at making connection. Anyway, this is a thoughtful post!

PS: I heard that the floodwater now started to ebbed away, so the Bangkok-dwellers will be able to reestablish their homes soon. ^w^Anyway, I wish you GOOD LUCK as always! :)
